PRESS RELEASE – Election Observer Initiative Presents Final Report
The election observation initiative WABEO filed an objection to the Federal Election on April 23, 2025, documenting over 800 violations
Weimar, May 8, 2025 – The citizens' initiative WABEO today submitted a comprehensive report on its election objection to the Election Verification Committee of the Bundestag. Authored by attorney Ralf Ludwig, known for his defense of Querdenken founder Michael Ballweg, the objection documents more than 800 violations of German election legislation. WABEO observed the Federal Election on February 23, 2025, with nearly 4,000 election observers. The systematic documentation ultimately covered over 1,500 polling stations. In 19 percent of cases, fundamental procedural regulations were disregarded, particularly the public announcement of results.
Stephanie Tsomakaeva, the founder of the initiative, stated: "Our election observation clearly demonstrates: Public oversight is an indispensable element of the democratic electoral process, as the Federal Constitutional Court has repeatedly emphasized."
Based on the thesis that in 10–20% of all electoral districts the recording of results was not conducted properly, it must be assumed that in each of these districts one vote for the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) party was miscounted. Therefore, according to the attorneys' argument, the application of the electoral threshold is disproportionate in this specific case. After all, the BSW would have 34 seats and thus more or less parliamentary group strength, meaning a fragmentation of the Bundestag would certainly not occur.
The chairman of the supporting association Bürger für Deutschland e.V. added: "Our election objection is an important step toward safeguarding democratic fundamental principles and transparency in elections in Germany."
